This is an original Lee-Metford Bayonet Pattern 1888 Mk2 bayonet. The blade features many marks including the War Department mark, broad arrow, etc. The manufacturers name “Mole” .Robert Mole & Sons (later swallowed up by Wilkinson Sword Co) was located in Birmingham, which is reflected in the Coronet / (Birmingham) / 35 inspection stamps applied by inspectors sent up from RSAF, Enfield on the ricasso. Also stamped "Mole" above the numerous re-issue dates. The pommel is stamped "485". 12” blade, 16 3/4” overall. Leather scabbard with metal fittings, tan canvass frog, wood grips with brass rivets. Overall good condition with the pommel, and guard turned a brown patina.
